INTRODUCTION

TRASH TRANSFORMS INTO ART

The moment I took my first picture, I felt I could capture a piece of the world and that transformed. The eyes of a photographer look, but he allows us to transmit, communicate with the environment and generate a dialogue with the essence of each being or thing. We give life through our images and give voice to those who are not able to hear.

During all these years, I have been fortunate enough to capture with my camera a lot of beauty, beautiful women and men, beautiful places and sublime details of reality, but so far nothing had touched me so much the colorful flashes of a stack of PET bottles. It sounds ridiculous to think that in the middle of the ugly, foul-smelling and disposable, there is beauty. But there it was, in front of my eyes accustomed to perfection, it was revealed to me in its purest state. Without pretensions, I only existed and tried to communicate with me. It is as if those objects sought to tell me that not because they were forgotten, they had lost their reason for being.

? How ugly can be beautiful? , was the first thing I thought to feel inexplicably attracted to these wastes. I was most surprised when that beauty was presented with carelessness on my computer screen. But there it was again.

One man’s trash is another’s treasure.

Today those tons of cardboard, papal, bottles and containers, have become my precious object, which I want to share.

I seek through this work, to give the world that forgotten beauty, to remind them that the circles close when we rescue the lost and give them a new value. Recycling is much more than taking advantage of what we throw away to transform it into something new, it is to give life to what I had lost, inject a meaning and a new purpose where the beauty still beats.

I feel satisfaction when my photographs invite someone to look at them, but I am moved when that person is attracted to the point of wanting those images to be part of their daily life. I invite you to look at the everyday and take advantage of what we do not need to transform it into a new treasure.

Environmental art takes concepts from ecology and works from an artistic vision, allowing viewers to establish communication between the environment and those who inhabit it. The idea of recycling has been present in all currents of the artistic avant-garde. From cubism, assembly, collage and ready-made works, those materials that are out of their context, function and utility, have their own meaning and at the same time shape new meanings. By assembling them, looking at them, photographing them, they lose their status as a mere object and become an art object. This is how art becomes an active social agent, which through its various manifestations such as drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, video, theater or dance, attracts attention and generates striking proposals that invite the reflection of environmental and eco-social issues of great importance for the subsistence of the human species on earth. While education through art is relatively recent, environmentally focused art has paved the way for more than three decades. Art is a process that takes time, like any form of meaning creation and sharpens our power of observation, and what better way to develop this faculty than with an observation approach, and what better way to develop this faculty than with a focus on the environment? This type of artistic project makes people look for signs and details in their environment and prepares them to connect more intimately with it and fosters feelings of care and preservation.

My work is a combination of various techniques, which result in an interesting play of volumes and shapes. My creative process begins with the Film or digital file I work with. For this particular project, I started with one of my favorite cameras, the Mamiya RZ 6X7 paired with one of the finest lenses in photography, the 120 mm macro, which is also known for its wonderful contrast that really adds strength to the images. Joining that lens with this camera with a Phase One P30 Digital Medium Format Back digital format produces a file size 6496 x 4872 active pixels that, in my opinion, exceed the analog capacity. Each of my images has many days, even weeks, some times even years of research time for each individual location and captured image . Each of the locations chosen for this theme had its share of difficulty and danger. The previous preparation work was an adventure, which was carried out successfully thanks to the work of my great team. In total, it was almost three years of planning, experimentation and error, until finally I obtained the final resulted  images that you can see in my work.
